Graduation Trip

14 days in Taiwan with 3 other not quite sane people- Yang, Fang and Swee Luan in mid April 2009. Since it's 14 days, I shall give you 14 memorable things about this trip...

1- Walking
Walking in Taiwan was incredibly A LOT! It was all about walking, regardless sightseeing or shopping or eating or taking transportation or even going back to where we stayed... In night markets, in streets which sell cheap and cool stuffs, in outskirts...
One of the memorable incident was we went down Ali Shan with its famous antique train and after 2 hours of comfortable journey (and I slept through), we have to change train. The 4 of us with all the huge and heavy luggages (ok, mine was lighter), we have to carry our luggage and climb up on steep and narrow staircase, having tourists to block and stop you on your way and that delayed some time... for at least 500 METERS! Since mine was lighter, I carried Stephanie's too. I guessed their luggage was at least 10 kgs. Yang was the luckiest. She had a handsome guy carrying her luggage for the ENTIRE journey...
But all thanks to an average of 3km or more walkings each day, we did not, or probably it was me alone who did not put on weight despite non-stop eating...

2- Sleeping
Yes, Yang and I were the sleeping queens. You know, after long day's travelling, surely you'll feel tired and bored in buses... We slept in almost every buses... ok, probably I defeated Yang and not knowing how ugly I slept soundly (very) and lopsided in buses... the bunch of monkeys enjoyed taking my picturesss almost everytime I fell asleep... Fortunately, I was smart enough to notice... and deleted almost ALL... I managed to revenge somehow :)

3- Sightseeing
Sightseeing in Taiwan was good. There were lots of beautiful sceneries and places such as Yang Ming Shan (where we saw lots of Lily), Ali Shan (many different kinds of flowers and trees around, they were all beautiful), Jiu Fen (an old street with lots of food, few dramas were shot here), Ching Jing (we saw lots and lots of SHEEPS!!! The coolest place to be...) etc... It was a good and different experience. We were relaxed, we felt the breeze, we took lots of photos and they were all just great :)

4- Shopping
Shopping in Taiwan was AWESOME. Especially buying lots of cheap and nice clothes! Biggest satisfaction... I bought 12 clothes (including shirts, long sleeves and shorts) for only RM150, which means RM10 for almost each. I even bought two shoes for RM9.50 each.
There were also lots of cheap, small, cool, cute stuffs which I don't think I can find them in Malaysia. But in the end, I regret for not buying more... cause my souvenirs were not enough!! *cries*

5- FOOD!!
Most of the time we eat street food just like the food in pasar malam. Street food in Taiwan's night markets are famous. They are like tit-bits but good enough to fill your tummy. And the choices are a lot, and what's more, most of these street food are tasty and of course, fattening...
My favorite food will be 'Da Chang Mian Xian' (pork intestine noodle, too bad can't find nice 'O A Mee Sua' aka oyster noodle in Taiwan...), 'Tie Dan' (some kind of egg- small, black and quite hard but taste like 'cha ye dan'), 'Nai Cha' or 'qing wa zhuang nai (milk tea), 'Chou Dou Fu' (smelly toufu, but did not eat as much...), tomatoes... (not your ordinary tomato.. it has plum inside, and I think the combination is BRILLIANT! I ate these almost everytime)...
Ok, I shouldn't even start listing them out. It will be infinite! I was a rubbish bin, ate all kinds of food and think they were all tasty!

this is NOT roti canai, it's my favorite 'chong zhua bing' :)

Feed me with ANY food~

6- Weather
It wasn't an ideal time to go Taiwan actually. The weather was unpredictable. It can be a big hot sunny morning, but rains cats and dogs in the afternoon all the way till night.
We missed lots of activities because of THE rain such as cycling (cycling is actually one of the 'must do' in Taiwan), hot spring and worst, we missed the sunrise in Ali Shan (one of the must-do in Ali Shan) because of the unusually thick fog. This will be my 5TH time failing to see sunrise. They decided that I bring 'sai' (shit) and WILL NOT watch sunrise with me ANYMORE!!! And after a week in Taipei, we only found out that Ali Shan was snowing...
Then I came up with 'Fang' and 'Yang' zuang (yang zuang in mandarin refers to European style of wearing but here refers to Yang Yang's wearing). 'Fang' zuang is short and sexy clothing even if the temperature is only 10 celcius (Fang really wore this almost every day) and 'Yang' zuang is the other way round. But the worst clothing will be 'Bo' zuang. Cause I wore totally WRONG clothing almost every day. I left my thick jacket at Taipei and went all the way up to Ali Shan with a thin jacket and I did not bring enough clothes up there. I ended up wearing Fang's big white shirt. Whenever it was sunny, I will wear thick clothing and whenever it was cold or rainy, I will wear shorts and freeze and tremble. Good thing was, I became their guidance toward their everyday-wearing...
The last three days' weather was perfect. Weak sunlight and we could feel the breeze, but was a bit too late for us... and too late for my thick jacket, but I insisted in wearing it and I did not mind sweating...
By the way, they forced me to bring umbrella out with me cause they found out that whenever I brought umbrella along with me, that day the weather will be perfect and NO rain. True enough, even cloudy days just did not rain.. oh well, life goes on...

Ali Shan~ no sun~

7- Crapping
I was their daily entertainer, being their host in trains, joker in streets. One of them was, I was telling Yang that the mother sheep is calling her son 'mmmmmaaaaaxxx' (in sheep's tone) and her son called her back 'mmmmmmmmmaaaaaaa'... Then Yang decided to name herself 'mmmmmmaayyy', no more Eunice Yong, but May Yong. And her sons, 'Max' and 'Mark'.
2 weeks' of crapping, Swee Luan of all people, quite an introvert person, LOVES my jokes... and everytime I managed to put a smile on their faces, even Steph's :)

Your yesterday, today and tomorrow's entertainer in the train- BBC~!

8- Stay
Homestaying in Taiwan was awesome! They were cheap and some were very beautiful, some not but most importantly, they were all very clean. And what's more, we all had really good nights staying in those places. But the 1st week for us was kinda like backpacking, so it was really tiring for us as we need to 'move house' every single day. And good thing was when we arrived in Taipei, we remain at my aunty's house for the rest of the days. It was a comfortable stay too in my aunty's place despite having to stay with cats and avoiding them sneaking into our room. Heard one of the cats do pee on beds and clothes...

9- Crazy poses
We sneaked into one of the elderly's tour in Ali Shan, wanting to hear the tour guide telling the legend and history of the places... and I saw many aunties posing during photo session. And I found out only aunties pose like that... Then we decided to do something silly, which was to pose like them! Cool eh?
In Taiwan, it was a trend to say this before taking photos in order to make you smile even sweeter... 'xi gua tian bu tian' (watermelon sweet or not?), then you will be replying while smiling 'TIAN'! (sweet!). Ever since then, we started to follow the trend but in different ways... such as 'mi sua, sua bu sua?' (dunno how to explain)

Aunty's poses

mi sua, sua bu sua?

Sua!!!

10- Jay Chou
It was Yang's obsession toward Jay Chou and mine toward his movie 'Secret' that we went to his former high school which is also Secret's school... It was cool to be there at the shooting scenes.
We also celebrated Yang's birthday in Jay's Secret theme restaurant. Even though the food wasn't that great, the ambience was quite nice...
And because of Jay Chou, I had my new silly hair cut. I was conned into a saloon saying that there was this hair stylist who looks really like Jay Chou. And they forced me to pretend and ask the price so that they can have a look at him. And yes, that was how I ended up having a hair cut without even getting a clear view of him while they watched him joyfully...

Notice my lovely short mushroom hair?

11- Travel mates
Fang/ nie nie: the strongest and toughest among us, and also the sexiest person in Taiwan... cause she will only wear shirts and shorts whereas everyone wore long sleeves and/or pants. She nearly wore a mini skirt in an extremely windy place. Kept complaining Taiwan was hot and never cold...

Fang got the Bo's syndrome when it comes to taking pictures with food~

Swee Luan/ Luan Gu: saw her true colors during the trip... she wasn't as quiet and naive as I thought. She was evil enough to treat me like her silky terrier puppy that she kept on hugging me, padding me and calling me 'Kiwi'...

told u she's evil...

Yang/ May: our treasurer throughout the trip, very responsible but not so for her own money. Spent most among us in buying clothes (haven't see you wear that skirt) and also in books... made a lovely notebook for all of us... so sweet :)

Just LOVE your photos :)

12- Camwhoring
A special technique I learned during this trip, especially from Yang. Trust me, it was my first time to camwhore in Taiwan. And these are the result...

learn from the professional~

not too bad ma... got some skills de...

most of the time we camwhore..cause we trust no one but ourselves...

this is how Nie Nie camwhore.. always showing that she has long hand...

13- Animals
Me in love with ALL of the animals I've seen in Taiwan... took pictures with ALL of them... but I wonder if they're all in love with me...

my favorite dog~

14- Celebrities
Many people said there's lots of chances to see celebrities in Taiwan and I was quite excited about it. We saw Z-Chen from Malaysia, Harlem and some other not-so-well-known celebrities, but that was when we were the live audience for 'Bai Wan Da Ge Xing', a Taiwanese entertainment program. If not, we will be seeing none... But for Yang, she was lucky or should I say 'lucky' enough to see Yang Zhong Wei and Huang Zi Jiao... She still complained, because she didn't get to see good looking celebrities... fat chance!

this one is some 'chap-lang' celebrity from Malaysia...

This is consider a summary for the entire trip. I would give Taiwan 9 out of 10 and strongly recommend YOU to consider Taiwan your next holiday destination. For more pictures, please visit my facebook. For now, Japan's next! I'm sure of it ;)

Group photo with my aunty.. a successful trip indeed :)
